If you want to improve a website which offers services, it's a good idea to review: 1. Headlines 2. Photos 3. Services descriptions.
Headlines If the front page of your website says 'Welcome to My Website' the great news is that there is plenty of scope for improvement! Anything more interesting than that will increase the number of people who read on.
Photos You're going to have to take the plunge and include a photo of yourself, and preferably one that isn't three years old. The first impression you make needs to be professional. It]s well worth paying a professional photographer to take a series of headshots which you can use consistently on your website, LinkedIn profile and other social media platforms.
Finding interesting photos of services are a challenge. This is where people selling products have it so much easier! I have struggled with this in relation to writing and editing services - just how many artful photos of someone holding a pen or tapping on a computer does the world need?!
My go to place for free stock photos for blogs and social media is pixabay.com.
For anyone using a Weebly website, there's also a reasonable library of photos to tap into, for which there are no copyright issues. Here's how to find them: a) Drag the 'Image' tab onto your page, click 'upload image' and then select 'search'. b) Type in what you're looking for, avert your eyes from the 'professional photos' tab, and choose 'free photos'. Select the photo you like.
The free photos are perfectly good for the purpose of a blog, and sometimes you will happen on the perfect thing for your more permanent pages, but sometimes it could be worth your while to shell out for a $5 (US dollars) photo if there's nothing suitable available in the free photos category.
Services descriptions You can start by listing your services, but don't stop there. Ask yourself why would anyone want to use that particular service - what difference would it make to their life? What will the experience of using your services be like? Brainstorm ideas, and use the best of these to explain to your readers why they may be interested in your services.
Not easy, I know - but it will help differentiate what you do from all the other people providing a similar service. It will give people more reasons to choose you.
